Fit & Fun

Ride through the tulips in La Conner on Saturday and help make bicycling safer for kids.

The 32nd annual Tulip Pedal is put on by Safe Kids Skagit-Island, a chapter of Safe Kids USA. The proceeds go toward purchasing bike helmets and car seats and educating the public about injuries.

The ride, also sponsored by Group Health, began in 1982. Riders can choose courses of 20, 40 or 60 miles amid the tulip fields and views of the Skagit Valley.

“Other than the annual Tulip Run, our ride is the largest organized event during the festival,” says Bill Craig, coordinator of the coalition. “More than 800 cyclists came out last year.”

The cost is $30 if you register in advance and $35 on the day of the event. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and ends at noon. The course is open until 4 p.m. For more information: http://www.skagitems.com/safe-kids-skagit-county/annual-tulip-pedal/
