Lydia Ko wins her 4th LPGA Tour event

Lydia Ko, a 17-year-old from New Zealand, won the Marathon Classic in Ohio to become the youngest player to surpass $1 million in LPGA Tour career earnings.

SYLVANIA, Ohio – Seventeen-year-old Lydia Ko hit a wedge to 4 feet to set up a birdie on the final hole and won the Marathon Classic on Sunday by one stroke over So Yeon Ryu.

Ko, a New Zealand native, is the youngest player to surpass $1 million in career earnings on the LPGA Tour.

Ko closed with a 6-under-par 65 for a 15-under 269 total and earned $210,000. She has won four LPGA Tour events, two as an amateur.

Other tournaments

Steve Wheatcroft beat Steven Alker on the first playoff hole to win the Web.com Tour’s Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft Nabisco in Idaho. Both were at 24-under 260 after 72 holes.

Andrew Putnam of University Place tied for fourth place at 19 under. Andres Gonzales of Olympia tied for 10th at 16 under.

Mark Rypien, a former NFL and Washington State quarterback, won the American Century celebrity tournament in Stateline, Nev.
