Michael Haack continued to make use of a home-course advantage Tuesday and holds a two-stroke lead entering the final round of the 88th Washington Open golf championship at Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent.

Haack, the assistant restaurant manager at Meridian Valley CC, followed up his opening-round 64 with a 1-under 71 to reach 9-under 135.

Haack led by three shots after the first round.

John Cassidy of Alderbrook Golf & Yacht Club in Union shot a 4-under 67 and was at 137. The top two have built a bit of a cushion as it is three shots further back to Shane Prante of Tom’s Golf Center in Olympia.

Darren Black and Brian Nosler are tied for fourth, six shots behind Haack.

Haack, who was reinstated as an amateur after a brief professional career, will try to become the first amateur to win the tournament since Josh Immordino in 2006. Amateurs have won the event 11 times, including Fred Couples in 1978.

Haack is scheduled to tee off at 2 p.m. Wednesday for his final round.
