Since its inception in 1935, the Seattle Amateur has been unique in its three-day, three-course format.

The 79th annual event begins Monday at Jefferson Park Golf Club, continues Tuesday at Jackson Park Golf Club and the lowest 54 players will advance to West Seattle Golf Club on Wednesday. The field has 142 golfers with handicaps less than 3.6.

The field is highlighted by eight-time champion Dave Farnam and past champions Travis Andrews and Larry Daniels.

More golf

• The 20th Sahalee Players Championship begins Monday in Sammamish and runs through Wednesday. The field consists of 66 of the top amateur golfers from around the world. Last year, Kevin Penner beat Chris Williams and Ben Geyer in a one-hole playoff.

Horse racing

Rocky’s Quest fought off Sandys Diamond for a three-quarter-length victory in the $19,950 feature race for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs. With Juan Gutierrez aboard, Rocky’s Quest ran one mile in 1:35.19 and paid $3, $2.20 and $2.10.

• One of Emerald Downs’ hottest rivalries — Exclusive Diva vs. E Z Kitty — continues Sunday when older fillies or mares meet in the $50,000 Boeing Handicap at one mile.
