Mika Miyazato wins her 1st LPGA Tour event | Golf
Mika Miyazato of Japan won the Safeway Classic at Pumpkin Ridge in Oregon for her first victory on the LPGA Tour.
NORTH PLAINS, Ore. — Mika Miyazato of Japan won the Safeway Classic on Sunday for her first victory on the LPGA Tour, finishing with a 2-under-par 70 to beat American Brittany Lincicome and South Korean Inbee Park by two strokes.
Miyazato, 22, finished 54 holes at 13-under 203 in her victory on Pumpkin Ridge's Ghost Creek Course. She earned $225,000.
Lincicome shot a 67 and Park had a 70.
Ex-Washington Huskies player Paige Mackenzie (68) of Yakima tied for 26th place at 2 under. Wendy Ward (70), who lives near Edwall, tied for 49th at 1 over.
PGA Tour event
to resume Monday
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Sergio Garcia had the lead at 15 under through four holes when final-round play in the PGA Tour Wyndham Championship was suspended for the day because of rain.
Play will resume at 6 a.m. PDT Monday and will be televised by Golf Channel.
Former UW golfer Richard H. Lee (10 under after 8 final-round holes) was tied for 17th place; Ryan Moore (67) of Puyallup was tied for 38th at 6 under; and ex-UW player Troy Kelly (71) was 63rd.
Wood triumphs
ENDICOTT, N.Y. — Willie Wood won the Dick's Sporting Goods Open for his first title on the 50-and-older Champions Tour, beating Michael Allen with a par on the first hole of a playoff.
Wood closed with a 4-under 68 to match Allen (66) at 13-under 203 after 54 holes. Wood, 51, earned $270,000.
The Champions Tour shifts to TPC Snoqualmie Ridge for the Boeing Classic, which begins Friday.
