VICTORIA, B.C. — Stroke-play medalist Megan Haase of Spokane continued her solid play with a 6-and-5 victory over Paige Whidbee of Pullman in the round of 16 in the Northwest Women's Amateur Championship.
In the Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, stroke-play medalist and No. 1 seed Penny Baziuk of North Saanich, B.C., fell to Kathryn McGarvey of North Vancouver, B.C., 1 up. Among the golfers advancing to the quarterfinals were No. 4 seed Leslie Folsom and No. 7 seed Jane Harris, both of Seattle.

• Recent Seattle University graduate Caitlin McCleary shot a 1-over 73 at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore., to finish in fourth place and earn one of five qualifying spots for the 2012 United States Women's Amateur, Aug. 6-12 at the The Country Club in Cleveland.
Incoming Redhawks freshman Clare Sorensen also clinched a spot in the tournament by finishing in a tie for fourth at the July 9 qualifying round held at Fountaingrove Golf Club in Santa Rosa, Calif.
