For Super Bowl parties, take-out from Seattle-area eateries

A roundup of local food options to carry out for Super Bowl Sunday snacking.

There’s a special food pyramid in place for days like Super Bowl Sunday. And since Seattle has a stake in this year’s game, the 12th Man will be just as busy prepping the perfect balanced meal as they will be cheering for the Hawks.

No matter which way the score goes, Seattle will be going hard — and our snacks are no exception. Here’s the lowdown on local businesses offering takeout specials for party planners.

Starting off traditionally: pizza. There are plenty of pie options in the city, including the 12th Man Primo from Pagliacci, which comes topped with mozzarella, pepperoni, black olives, chicken, salami and Mama Lil’s peppers. But if you require a bit more meat on your slice — or maybe just want a package of Skittles with every order — then head over to Zeeks. There you’ll find the Beast Mode pie, covered with Canadian bacon, sausage, pepperoni and sprinkled with crumbled traditional bacon.

For a truly healthy dose of carnivorous Super Bowl options look no further than The Boar’s Nest in Ballard. It offers three size options, starting at $75 for the smallest, which serves six to eight people. That will buy two slabs of ribs, 1 pound of pork, 1 pound of smoked sausage or barbecue chicken, two pints of baked beans and two pints of coleslaw. Each increase (to either 12-17 or 20-24 servings) will be $75 more than the last, but will include a side of mac and cheese.

The other cornerstone of football food, wing places, don’t really need to offer specials for games, but at least the Greenwood Wing Dome is throwing in a free 2-liter soda with all deliveries.

If you want an original take on the game-day menu check out Ma’Ono, which offers a whole fried chicken (10 pieces); rice, kimchi and chili sauce; macaroni salad; curry bacon fried rice; spam musubi; linguiça “corn dogs”; and pineapple upside-down cake. It’s $79, serves four to six people and you can pick it up at 1 p.m. Super Bowl Sunday.

Tom Douglas’ Home Remedy is offering several takeout options, including seven-layer dip with cheese, eight pieces of pigs in a blanket, buttermilk and Tabasco-spiked fried chicken, five-alarm chili, wood-grilled chicken wings, a nacho kit, french onion dip, or your choice of chicken, bacon, ranch pizza or Simon’s buffalo chicken pizza. As if those options weren’t enough, they’ll throw in a bag of Skittles with every order to sweeten the pot.

For anyone who’s looking for truly Northwest nourishment to set you apart from Denver snackers, Sushiland is offering its Touchdown Platter for $30. The dishes include four pieces of salmon rolls, crab salad, shrimp rolls and masago; eight pieces of spicy tuna; six pieces of the house special, California rolls and shrimp tempura; and two plates of chicken karage and edamame. They’re taking orders all the way through Super Bowl Sunday. It may not be classic football food, but it’ll definitely do the trick.

Another Pacific seafood option can be had at Ivar’s, where the classic clam chowder is available in gallon sizes for $24. With buyer’s choice of red or white chowder and upward of 20 six-ounce servings, this package is a staple for anyone looking to feed a crowd.

Sweet tooths going into Beast Mode are going to need a dessert option, and luckily the smorgasbord of Seattle has offerings for that as well. Kukuruza is offering special “beast corn” for a sweet appetizer; blue- and green-colored kettle corn that’s sure to set it apart from the typical bowls of chip and dip. The gallon bag of popcorn is available in their stores or on its website for $13.

Plus, Cupcake Royale has special 12th Man cupcakes, and Trophy Cupcakes will be offering their special Beast Mode dozen: six cupcakes are chocolate vanilla cupcakes with a green swirl of buttercream frosting and blue Seahawks helmets. The other six will be vanilla cake (dyed Seahawks colors, of course) topped with a swirl of “Skittles orange” buttercream — plus, its own little mini-football.
