Recipe: Pizza Burgers
Spice up your burgers with this fun summer barbecue recipe.
Pizza Burgers
4 hamburgers
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce, divided
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil, crushed
1 teaspoon dried oregano, crushed
1/4 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
4 thin slices mozzarella cheese, cut in half
4 large French rolls, split
1 tablespoon olive oil
1. In a bowl combine the ground beef, 6 tablespoons tomato sauce, breadcrumbs, basil, oregano, salt and pepper. Form into 4 large rectangular burgers to fit the rolls. Refrigerate until ready to use.
2. Grill the burgers over medium coals for 6 minutes. Turn and grill for a few minutes then spread the remaining tomato sauce on top of the burgers and top with the cheese slices. Continue to grill until an instant-read thermometer reads 165 degrees in the center of the burgers.
3. Drizzle the rolls with the olive oil and place cut side down around the edge of the grill to toast lightly. Place the burgers on the rolls and serve.
