New DVDs

Jude Law, Johnny Depp, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tyler Perry (but not Madea) are back with releases Tuesday, July 22. Star ratings are by Seattle Times movie reviewers, freelancers or wire services. For full reviews, search the title at seattletimes.com. Release dates are subject to change.

★★★  “Dom Hemingway” (R): In Richard Shepherd’s caper-ish crime film, a nearly unrecognizable Jude Law plays a safecracker fresh out of 12 years in a British prison, ready to visit his old boss in France and collect what’s owed him.

★★★  “Blue Ruin” (R): An ordinary Joe (Macon Blair) sets forth to kill the man who murdered his parents and learns that revenge is not for amateurs.

★★★  “Cesar Chavez” (PG-13): Michael Peña goes from humble farm laborer to civil-rights icon as “Cesar Chavez.”

★★  “Transcendence” (PG-13): The mind of a murdered scientist (Johnny Depp) is uploaded into a supercomputer and then proceeds to try to take over the Internet and, by extension, the world.

★½  “Sabotage” (R): A foulmouthed team of DEA commandos (led by Arnold Schwarzenegger) steals $10 million in cartel cash and then are serially bumped off in extremely gruesome ways.

★  “The Single Moms Club” (PG-13): Tyler Perry tackles single motherhood in his latest film starring Nia Long, Amy Smart, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Cocoa Brown and Zulay Henao.

“Heaven is for Real”(PG): After major surgery, a young Nebraska boy (Connor Corum) tells his father (Greg Kinnear), the minister of a local church, that he’s been to heaven. No star rating provided.
