July 20 TV Picks: ‘The Strain’ on FX
TV picks for Sunday, July 20, 2014, include “The Strain” on FX, “Last Tango in Halifax” on KCTS and “Unforgettable” on CBS.
This new thriller comes from the mind of Guillermo del Toro (“The Devil’s Backbone,” “Pan’s Labyrinth”). He co-wrote and directed the pilot, which aired last Sunday, and serves as executive producer. The pilot was chock-full of his signature creepy touches: a “dead” plane full of outbreak victims, wormlike creatures burrowing under the skin — and I’m still trying to get that morgue scene (set to the strains of “Sweet Caroline”) out of my head. Corey Stoll (“House of Cards”) plays the head of a CDC branch investigating the outbreak. 10 p.m. Sunday, July 20, on FX (seattletimes.com/tvlistings).
