Boats, beaches, parades, stargazing | Weekend Preview

Activities for the weekend of July 4-6, 2014, include Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival, Jetty Island opening, Wallingford Family Parade and Festival, Star Parties and the Museum of Glass 12th Birthday. Films opening include “Life Itself” and “Tammy.”

Wallingford Family Parade and Festival: Parade, 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, North 45th Street from Interlake Avenue North to Bagley Avenue North, Seattle; marketplace, food vendors, kids games and bouncy houses, entertainment, beer/wine/small bites garden, noon-5 p.m., Meridian Playground Park, 50th Avenue North and North Meridian Street, Seattle (visitwallingford.org).

Star Parties: Seattle Astronomical Society hosts telescopes for viewing the sky and information for all ages, weather permitting, 9 p.m. Saturday, July 5, Green Lake Park south of the Bathhouse Theater, 7201 E. Green Lake Drive N., Seattle; and Paramount Park, Eighth Avenue Northeast and Northeast 155th Street, Shoreline; free (www.seattleastro.org).

AT THE MOVIES

“Tammy”: Melissa McCarthy co-wrote and stars in this road-trip comedy (with Susan Sarandon), directed by McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone. It opened Wednesday, July 2, at several theaters.

“Begin Again”: Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo star in this musical romance from filmmaker John Carney (“Once”). It opened Wednesday, July 2, at several theaters.

“Earth to Echo”: A family adventure about an extra-terrestrial who looks like a wide-eyed robot owl. It opened Wednesday, July 2, at several theaters.

“Deliver Us From Evil”: A crime/horror film set in New York City and starring Eric Bana and Olivia Munn. It opened Wednesday, July 2, at several theaters.

“Life Itself”: A tribute to and look at movie critic Roger Ebert. It opens Friday, July 4, at the Harvard Exit.

“Yves Saint Laurent”: A biopic about the French fashion designer. It opens Friday, July 4, at the SIFF Cinemas at the Uptown.
