Sunday Best: Eva Green is scary chic at Cannes

Looking dramatic yet elegant in a gown by Elie Saab, Eva Green takes the red carpet at Cannes.

Think she just said “BOO”? I would have. Lots of drama on screen at the Cannes Film Festival this past week — and plenty of drama on the red carpet as well, particularly in this wonderfully witchy Elie Saab gown worn by Eva Green (who stars in the Western “The Salvation,” screening at the fest). Saab is a Lebanese-born designer who’s long been a red-carpet favorite: He dressed Halle Berry, in another wine-red gown with sheer detailing, for her Oscar win in 2002. This dress, with its insanely diva-ish built-in cape, looks like it was made for flashbulbs; you can almost hear the wind whipping through it. She’s clearly having a ball posing in it. Maybe some clever agent will sign the dress for its own movie.
