Community events for the weekend of May 17-18, 2014, include the University District Streetfair, Paine Field Aviation Day and Foss Waterway Seaport Season Kick Off.

University District Streetfair

Arts and crafts vendors, entertainment, food vendors, beer garden, Kids’ Area entertainment and craft activities, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, University Way Northeast from Campus Parking to North 50th Street, Seattle (udistrictstreetfair.org ).

Syttende Mai Festival and Parade: Celebration of Norway’s Constitution Day; children’s activities, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and Nordic Cafe, 3:30-5:30 p.m., Nordic Heritage Museum, 3014 N.W. 67th St., Seattle, free admission; entertainment, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Bergen Place, intersection of Market Street, Leary Avenue and 22nd Avenue Northwest; parade with marching bands, drill teams, Norwegian-American groups, classic cars, 6-8 p.m., on 24th Avenue Northwest from Northwest 62nd Street to Market Street, to 22nd Avenue Northwest, down Ballard Avenue, ending at Dock Street (17thofmay.org).

Seattle Chinese Arts and Culture Festival: Traditions of 5,000 years of Chinese history with music and dance performances, films, kids’ activities, food and craft vendors, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Seattle Center Armory, Seattle (206-684-7200 or www.seattlecenter.com ).

Paine Field Aviation Day: Firefighters Fly Day 5K race/walk, WarBirds flight, Flying Heritage Collection and Historic Flight Foundation displays and activities, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Paine Field, 3407 109th St. S.W., Everett; $10, ages 17 and younger free (www.painefield.com ).

Alki Beach Summer Streets: Portion of Alki Avenue Southwest closed to vehicles for walking, biking, vendors, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; run/walk to benefit West Seattle High School, 9:20 a.m. Sunday, Alki Beach Park, 1702 Alki Ave. S.W., Seattle (www.seattle.gov/transportation/summer_alki.htm).

Montlake Arts & Music Happening: Local artists, musicians and authors exhibit their art, perform music and published works, children’s art displays and projects, 2 p.m. Sunday, Montlake Community Center, 1618 E. Calhoun St., Seattle; free (206-684-4736 or Montlake.net ).

Foss Waterway Seaport Season Kick Off: Maritime heritage center opens for the summer season, music, activities, cake, fire boat and other special boats, cannon firing, noon Sunday, 705 Dock St., Tacoma; $5-$8, Museum Week buy one get one free admission Sunday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 21-23 (253-272-2750 or www.fosswaterwayseaport.org ).
