Baseball and boating: Ahh, spring is definitely in the air

The Seattle Boat Show runs from Friday, Jan. 24, to Feb. 1 at the CenturyLink Field Event Center and South Lake Union. Mariners FanFest is this Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25-26, at Safeco Field.

Think spring baseball and boating at Mariners FanFest Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25 and 26, at Safeco Field and the Seattle Boat Show Friday, Jan. 24, through Feb. 1 at CenturyLink Field Event Center and South Lake Union.

Meet Mariners players, tour the clubhouse, throw a pitch in the bullpen and check out the view from the stands to pick out your seats for the upcoming season starting on Opening Day April 8. Meet and chat with current and future players and staff in the dugout and get autographs; get a sneak peak of what’s on the menu this season at Taste of Safeco Field in the Diamond Club; see a display of local baseball history memorabilia and check out the Mariners Care Garage Sale charity fundraiser to add to your own memorabilia collection. Take a swing in the batting cage against a virtual Felix Hernandez, pitch in the bullpen, catch in the outfield, run around the bases, soar over the field on a Zip Line and see what it’s like to be a sports reporter at the Root Sports Virtual TV Broadcast.

Admission is free for kids ages 14 and younger with plenty of attractions for young fans, including meet-and-greet the Mariner Moose in his Moose Den and a variety of games and activities in the Kids Zone.

Though hardy Northwesterners boat year around, opening day of boating season festivities are on May 3 this year, so spring is also in the air at the Seattle Boat Show at CenturyLink Field Event Center and South Lake Union. Along with displays and sale of boats and accessories and a variety of seminars through the show’s run, it kicks off with what’s billed as the biggest boating party of the year, Seattle Boat Show Uncorked wine tasting Friday, Jan. 24.

Women’s Day Monday, Jan. 27, offers a free show pass for women and seminars by and for women boaters all day. Legendary hydroplane racer Chip Hanauer stops by both Fridays and the world champion Sand Sculpture Company sculpts 50 tons of sand throughout the show into a 28-foot-long Seattle skyline, complete with Seafair Pirates and the Seahawks 12th Man. As a special celebration of the Seahawks’ NFC Championship, Boat Show admission includes access to CenturyLink field, a rare opportunity to walk on the turf and take photos, noon to 2 p.m. daily through Jan. 28 and Jan. 31 through Feb. 1.

A free shuttle runs continuously between the two Boat Show locations and several promotions and specials are available with ticket packages online.
