New DVDs

Haunted things and honeybees land on DVD Tuesday. Star ratings are by Seattle Times movie reviewers, freelancers or wire services. For full reviews, search the movie title at seattletimes.com. Release dates are subject to change.

1.5 stars“Insidious: Chapter 2” (PG-13): The sequel to the 2010 fright flick “Insidious” continues the story of a family besieged by malevolent otherworldly forces. Joining all the haunted houses and objects (rocking horses, a piano, even a baby walker) is a haunted dad (Patrick Wilson). Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey, Lin Shaye (she’s baack!) and Ty Simpkins co-star.

3 stars  “More than Honey” (not rated; for general audiences): Markus Imhoof’s documentary, which explores the honeybee crisis, follows ground previously tread (“Colony,” “Queen of the Sun”). But, writes Seattle Times movie critic Moira Macdonald, “it does so thoughtfully, introducing us to some fascinating experts along the way. (The topic of bee insemination, for example, just might need its own documentary some day.) And Imhoof’s film is remarkable in its close-up photography. The bees loom large, like creatures from some mutant planet.”

3 stars“Una Noche” (not rated; for mature audiences): Three Havana teens (Dariel Arrechaga, Anailín de la Rúa de la Torre and Javier Núñez Florián) try to escape to Miami on a homemade raft. In Spanish, with English subtitles.
