All hail Helen Mirren and outdoor movies

Outdoor movies begin Tuesday with “Hotel Transylvania” at the Downtown Bellevue Park, and Helen Mirren plays Queen Elizabeth II in the National Theatre’s production of “The Audience” at the Uptown.

Do you hear that? No, not the sound of all the summer blockbusters currently ensconced in or stampeding their way to your local multiplex, but the calm before the storm of the annual tidal wave of outdoor summer movie series. The first series begins at dusk Tuesday with Adam Sandler’s hyper 2012 animated “Hotel Transylvania” at the Downtown Bellevue Park, 10201 N.E. Oh, and the Queen is coming to Seattle. OK, not the real one, but Academy Award- winning actress Helen Mirren playing Queen Elizabeth II in the National Theatre’s production of “The Audience” by Peter Morgan (“The Queen” and “Frost/Nixon”). The production was directed by Stephen Daldry (“Billy Elliot,” “The Hours”) and will screen at 6 p.m. Friday, 12:30 and 6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 12:30 and 6 p.m. Thursday at SIFF Cinema at the Uptown.
