“The Place Beyond the Pines”: Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper star in this new drama from director Derek Cianfrance (“Blue Valentine”). It opens Friday at the Harvard Exit and Lincoln Square Cinemas.

“The Sapphires”: Chris O’Dowd stars in this new film inspired by a true star-is-born story set in Australia in the ’60s. It opens Friday at the Seven Gables.

“Evil Dead”: Director Fede Alvarez takes on the 1981 horror film with a new version of the tale of five friends at a remote cabin. It has late-night previews Thursday and opens Friday at several theaters.

“Jurassic Park 3D”: This rerelease of Steven Spielberg’s 1993 movie brings back the dinosaurs. It also has late-night previews Thursday and opens Friday at several theaters.

“Reality”: Matteo Garrone’s satire about a man dreaming of becoming a television celebrity on the Italian version of “Big Brother.” It opens Friday at the Meridian 16.

“Leviathan”: Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Verena Paravel’s documentary was shot on a trawler in the North Atlantic. It opens Friday at the Northwest Film Forum.

“Room 237”: Rodney Ascher’s documentary examines Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 horror film “The Shining” from the perspectives of five obsessive interpreters. It opens Friday at the SIFF Cinema at the Uptown.

“A Fierce Green Fire”: This documentary traces the environmental movement and selected milestones. It opens Friday at the Varsity.

“Wrong”: A new film from director Quentin Dupieux about the episodic misadventures of a neurotic man (Jack Plotnick). It opens Friday at the Grand Illusion.
