‘Wreck-It Ralph,’ ‘Playing for Keeps,’ ‘Red Dawn’ | New DVDs

New DVD releases for Tuesday, March 5, include Disney’s “Wreck-It Ralph”; the comedy “Lay the Favorite”; the remake of “Red Dawn”; the Gerard Butler rom-com “Playing for Keeps”; and a French tale of friendship, “The Intouchables.”

New DVDs

Disney powers up “Wreck-It Ralph” for DVD Tuesday. Star ratings are by Seattle Times movie reviewers, freelancers or wire services. For full reviews, search the movie title at seattletimes.com. Release dates are subject to change.

3.5 stars“Wreck-It Ralph” (PG): Bursting with color, the animated feature, set in the world of video games, follows a gorilla-armed “bad guy” (John C. Reilly) intent on winning a medal that will make him a hero in his colleagues’ eyes.

2.5 stars“The Bay” (R): Barry Levinson’s eco-horror film uses the found-footage concept to tell the story of a mysterious plague that suddenly kills hundreds of people in a small Maryland town.

2 stars“Playing for Keeps”(PG-13): A broke soccer star (Gerard Butler) agrees to coach a team to get closer to his son (Noah Lomax).

2 stars“Lay the Favorite” (R): Rebecca Hall plays a clueless small-town stripper turned Las Vegas gambling prodigy in Stephen Frears’ comedy.

1.5 stars“Red Dawn”(PG-13): A group of high-schoolers from Spokane (Michigan stands in for Washington) goes up against invading North Korean soldiers in this remake of the 1984 original. Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson star.

“The Intouchables” (R, subtitled): Based on a true story, the French comedy/drama is about the friendship between a quadriplegic millionaire (François Cluzet) and the man he hires from the projects to be his caretaker (Omar Sy). No star rating provided.
