“Identity Thief”: Jason Bateman plays a businessman, while Melissa McCarthy plays the title character in this new comedy from director Seth Gordon (“Horrible Bosses”). It has midnight previews Thursday, and opens Friday at several theaters.

“Side Effets”: This new thriller from director Steven Soderbergh stars Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum and Jude Law. It has midnight previews Thursday, and opens Friday at several theaters.

“Tabu”: A Portuguese film that’s really three movies in one. It opens Friday at the Northwest Film Forum.

“56 Up”: Another installment of Michael Apted’s documentary series that follows a group of British-born adults the director has interviewed every seven years. It opens Friday at the Guild 45th Theatre.

“Top Gun 3D”: This 3D rerelease of the 1986 Navy flyer blockbuster, also has midnight previews Thursday, and opens Friday at several theaters.
