"Trishna": Writer-director Michael Winterbottom's new film transports Thomas Hardy's "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" to modern India. It opens Friday at the Harvard Exit.

"Portrait of Wally": A look at the history of Egon Schiele's celebrated painting. It opens Friday at the SIFF Cinema at the Uptown.

"Lovely Molly": A low-budget, haunted-house/haunted-woman tale from writer/director Eduardo Sanchez ("The Blair Witch Project"). It opens Friday at the SIFF Cinema at the Uptown.

"Crazy Eyes": The tale of a rich-boy (Lukas Haas) who falls for an unattainable girl (Madeline Zima). It opens Friday at SIFF Cinema at the Uptown.

"Payback": A documentary about debt, based on Margaret Atwood's book "Payback: Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth." It opens Friday at SIFF Film Center.
