All aboard for the Everett Riviera!

Something about Jetty Island, a man-made sand island at the mouth of the Snohomish River on Everett's waterfront, speaks to the soul of any serious sun and sand worshipper — and we have them, even in the Pacific Northwet (spelling error intentional). The island is reached by a three-minute crossing aboard a passenger ferry, but it still feels like a world apart on a warm summer day.

The summer's daily ferry runs (by donation, $1-$2) start Sunday and continue through Labor Day, but you can also visit this Saturday for a water-sports event, Jetty Jam. It's a day of competition and free demonstrations on stand-up paddleboards and kiteboards (yes, it gets windy on that waterfront), sponsored by Seattle's Urban Surf shop. Events are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The foot ferry, pictured here, departs from the 10th Street Boat Launch and Marine Park, located at 10th and West Marine View Drive, Everett. Pick up boarding passes at the boat-launch kiosk.
