Woman finds bat in coffee maker

Call it bat brew
It wasn't just the caffeine that gave a Cedar Rapids, Iowa, woman an extra jolt after she had her morning coffee. It was the bat she found in the filter. Folks at the Iowa Department of Public Health said the woman reported a bat in her house but wasn't too worried. She turned on her automatic coffee maker before bedtime and drank her coffee the next morning. She discovered the bat in the filter when she went to clean it that night. The woman has undergone treatment for possible rabies.
Airport is bear-safe
Juneau International Airport in Alaska doesn't have to worry about bears anytime soon after officials evacuated it briefly Friday because of an accidental discharge of anti-bear spray. Fire Chief Eric Mohrman said the spray spread through the building via the ventilation system.

Star's dad charged
Los Angeles prosecutors have charged the father of "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere with misdemeanor battery for an incident in which he allegedly hit his wife. Alan Panettiere, 49, faces up to a year in a Los Angeles County jail if convicted. He was arrested Aug. 11 on suspicion of striking his wife, Lesley.
McMahon does rap gig
Ed McMahon, 85, who recently went through a serious financial crisis, has a new job. Johnny Carson's former straight man stars in two viral rap videos for the financial Web site FreeCreditReport.com. Seems McMahon goes all gangsta in the ads: He's shown riding around in a Cadillac Escalade golf cart wearing a tracksuit.
