Editorial: Donate school supplies, the tools of learning
Give to the annual School Supply Drive of The Seattle Times Fund for the Needy to help make sure children in need have the tools for learning.
Seattle Times Editorial
A summer with actual sunshine is a glorious distraction in the Pacific Northwest, but please remember to help equip low-income students for a new school year.
Donations to The Seattle Times Fund for the Needy recognize two important facts. First, all those pens, pencils, notebooks and other supplies are vital tools of learning — a basic kit for completing assignments and homework.
Second, generous readers are acknowledging thousands of families that need assistance in a slowly recovering economy.
This awareness and concern makes a powerful statement to our struggling neighbors throughout the region. Know they are grateful for the help.
In that spirit, please tell us about other community groups with similar efforts, so we can recognize their work.
Reader donations to our editorial-page campaign are divided among three excellent agencies: Hopelink, the YWCA of Seattle-King County-Snohomish County and the Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness. They screen the applicants, buy grade-appropriate supplies in bulk and organize and distribute them.
Empower learning with a donation for a most pragmatic purpose. Share in the joy.
