The big story out of Olympia today is that Senate Democrats complained about the opening prayer because the pastor, who was chosen by Senate Republican leader Mark Schoesler, called for the strengthening of marriage "as You ordained it for our good and Your glory."

Was that a dig against gay marriage? The pastor's words were vague political language of the sort senators know well--the sort of language that could be a dig, or not a dig, depended on how one interpreted it. The diplomatic thing was to interpret them as innocent. Those who complained did so because they were looking for a reason to complain. There is no need to fight for same-sex marriage anyway. It's done.
