Washington, the cremation state
A tidbit for All Hallows Eve: Washington is the No. 1 cremation state, according to this source. The rate of creation in the Evergreen State is 63 percent. The data peg Hawaii as the No. 2 cremation state, Nevada No. 3, Oregon No. 4, Arizona No. 5 and Alaska No. 6—all states in the West. The lowest cremation states are Southern, with Tennessee, at 3 percent, at the bottom. The statistics are nine years old, and are attributed to CANA, the Cremation Association of North America.
The list of high-cremation states has a lot of overlap (but is not identical to) the low-church-or synagogue-attendance states.
