Updated: Here's who Washington's daily newspapers are endorsing for state and federal races
Updated, 4:45, Oct. 30: Daily newspapers have a long tradition of recommending candidates for political offices to their readers.
These endorsements are offered as more information to voters as they do their own research and make up their own minds about which candidates and ballot measures to vote for. Since June, The Seattle Times editorial board members met with more than 170 candidates in select races in King and Snohomish counties for the primary and general elections. That work is distilled in this list for the Nov. 6 ballot.
Washington is a diverse with a lot of disagreement among voters, especially between those living in the urban and rural areas. And newspapers thoughout the state often make different recommendations. So far, four papers, including The Seattle Times, have recommended voters re-elect President Obama, while three think it's time for a change.
On the governor's race, however, 12 of the 13 daily newspapers that have endorsed so far recommend Rob McKenna, Washington's current state attorney general. Read all 12 gubernatorial endorsements here.
There's also similar strong support for Referendum 74, allowing same sex marriage. Twelve of 13 papers support it, while The Daily News of Longview does not. Read those endorsements here.
Some newspaper endorsements are continuing to be rolled out, but take a look at how the endorsements are shaping up so far. Scroll to the right to see all the newspapers and down to see federal recommendations.
The Centralia Chronicle is not endorsing this year, newspapers are not endorsing in races, said Brian Mittge, editor in chief. And others are tending to endorse more in local races, than statewide races. The Bellingham Herald editorial board is sticking strictly local, as it explains in this editorial. The Herald did recommend Suzan DelBene in the 1st Congressional District and Rick Larsen in the 2nd.
