The Republican roll call in Tampa
Mitt Romney won the delegate vote with 2,061 votes. In a distant second was Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who by my count had 193 votes. His total was not announced from the podium, which was weird. Even in the handful of states where Romney came in second, his total was the only one announced. Thus, in Iowa (which had voted in January for Santorum, though initially reported as Romney), the delegate vote was 6 for Romney and 22 for Paul. The woman at the podium announced this as, "Iowa! Six! Romney!"
Washington was 38 for Romney, 5 for Paul. The total was announced by Dino Rossi, who boasted that he was from "The real Washington!" And that was dignified. The South Dakota guy announced his state as "home of Wall Drug and the Corn Palace." The head of the Oregon delegation announced his state as "the next red state on the left coast" and then, "The New Jersey of the West." That one was unexpected. I'd never dream of comparing Oregon to New Jersey.
