Brewing: What Wisconsin recall failure means for Washington state
What's brewing Wednesday morning:
Wisconsin recall fails: This is the most important news from last night. The effort to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker failed. It's a major blow for labor because they were leading the recall movement.
Walker cut collective-bargaining rights for most public workers to cut state budget costs. If our local and state unions don't work with public agencies to make practical cost cuts, government leaders — even in states with past liberal leadership &8212; will resort to drastic measures. The private sector has been swallowing pay and benefit cuts throughout the recession. They want to see the public sector do the same thing.
Check out the coverage from University of Washington student journalists reporting from Waukesha, Wisc., on UW Election Eye.
Clear skies: In other news, it's not raining outside, although I'm resentful that clear skies in June would feel like crumbs from the table of the weather gods.
Do you think Walker's labor tactics could ever headway in Washington state? Let us know in the comments below.
