BYU pitchers shut down Washington State, 3-0

Four BYU pitchers stifle WSU in Pasco

PASCO — Four different Brigham Young pitchers shut out Washington State as the Cougars from Utah scored a 3-0 victory over the Cougars from Pullman in a nonleague game played before 3,360 spectators in Pasco.

Washington State dropped to 15-14 with the defeat while BYU improved to 13-21.

OTHER BASEBALL

• The Tuesday game scheduled between Washington and Seattle University at Bannerwood Stadium was rained out and will be made up May 13.

WOMEN’S GOLF

• Gonzaga’s Alice Kim took medalist honors for the second consecutive week and the Zags took their second team title of the spring by winning The Gold Rush in Yorba Linda, Calif. Kim had a final-round 75 for a 215 total.

• Seattle U moved up two spots to 11th in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa, Ariz. Amanda Beyke had a 76 for the second consecutive day and tied for 32nd.

MEN’S GOLF

• Gonzaga sophomore Sean Walsh had a 74 to tie for eighth and match a school record with a 54-hole score of 207 at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz. Walsh tied the 54-hole school mark set in 2007 by Brandon Crick with rounds of 65-67-74 over the 7,133-year, par-70 layout.

• Western Washington’s Craig Crawford closed with a 74 to finish in a four-way tie for eighth place individually and the Vikings tied for seventh as a team at the Western New Mexico Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz.

TRACK

Jordan Arakawa of Eastern Washington was selected the Big Sky Conference men’s field athlete of the week after a hammer throw of 212 feet, 1 inch.
