Former player, coach Ehlo arrested

Craig Ehlo, former NBA and Washington State player and Eastern Washington coach, was jailed on a domestic violence charge.

SPOKANE — Former NBA player and Eastern Washington basketball coach Craig Ehlo was arrested Thursday.

The Spokesman-Review reported that Ehlo was jailed on a felony charge of first-degree reckless burning and a separate charge of domestic violence.

Firefighters encountered two male family members holding Ehlo down near a pile of his burning clothes, next to a garage, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Ehlo, 51, played at Washington State and for four teams over 14 seasons in the NBA. He coached EWU before resigning on July 11.


• Top seeds Jason Jung of Torrance, Calif., and Gail Brodsky of Kirkland advanced to the men’s and women’s open singles quarterfinals with straight-set victories in the Washington State Open at the Seattle Tennis Club.

Sierra Kersten of Spokane tied for ninth at 5-over 221 as Washington finished sixth in the Girls Junior America’s Cup golf tournament in Albuquerque, N.M.

Janna Vander Meulen of Buckley won bronze in the women’s 400-meter hurdles at the Deaflympics in Sofia, Bulgaria.

• In the Junior League baseball West Regional, Yakima lost 6-4 to Anchorage, Alaska, and the host Vancouver team lost to Salem, Ore., 3-2. In the Senior League baseball West Regional in Ontario, Calif., Vancouver lost 2-1 to Chino, Calif. In the Junior League softball West Regional in Tucson, Ariz., Mill Creek played Cedar City, Utah.
