Player of the Game
Connor Halliday, a redshirt freshman out of Ferris High in Spokane, came off the bench for Washington State to connect on 27 of 36 passes for 494 yards and four touchdowns. Before this effort, the only action he had seen was in blowout victories.
Play of the Game
It was Halliday announcing himself with authority. On his first snap, he hit a streaking Marquess Wilson in stride for an 85-yard touchdown that got the Cougars back in the game, down just 7-6.
Turning Point
When Arizona State couldn't convert twice in the red zone in the fourth quarter, this back-and-forth slugfest finally went WSU's way. With a fourth-and-one at the WSU 9, ASU coach Dennis Erickson went for it, but Cameron Marshall was stopped for a yard loss. Later, when he had a chance to tie the game at 30, Alex Garoutte missed a 21-yard field goal.
Key Stats
The Cougars had 590 yards total offense, and it seemed to be powered by the excitement of playing at home in Pullman for just the second time since Sept. 10.
Quite a Catch
Wilson, just a sophomore, had a big night with 223 yards receiving and three TDs on eight receptions.
Missed Opportunity
Arizona State could have regained control in the race to represent the South in the Pac-12 title game, but instead falls into a tie at 4-3 with UCLA.
By the Numbers
2 By going past 1,000 yards receiving for a second consecutive year, Wilson becomes just the second Cougar to do that, joining Jason Hill who did it in 2004 and 2005.
5 The number of times a WSU quarterback has thrown for more than 300 yards this season. Marshall Lobbestael threw for 376 (Colorado), 368 (San Diego State), 361 (UNLV) and 337 (Oregon) before Halliday's big game Saturday.
37 Jared Karstetter has a reception for WSU in 37 consecutive games.

Amazing performance by Connor Halliday. Nice to see the in-state talent stay in-state... (November 13, 2011, by schatzidog)
