Washington State (3-4); Oregon (6-1) Time: Noon at Autzen Stadium
TV: ROOT sports Radio: KTTH 770 AM The line: Oregon by 35 ½
The setup: Washington State tries to spring what would be the most massive upset in school history, while the Ducks attempt to stay on course for a Pac-12 North title and keep alive hopes of returning to the national-championship game.
Key matchup: WSU LB C.J. Mizell vs. Oregon running backs. The Oregon runners are lethal in space, and it requires discipline and sure tackling to negate their breakaway ability.
Notes: WSU quarterback Jeff Tuel, injured last week against Oregon State, might be out for the season with shoulder and calf injuries. It's the calf, with acute compartment syndrome, that might sideline him through 2011. ... This is No. 6 in a seven-game stretch in which WSU plays in Pullman only once. ... WSU tested Ducks last year in Pullman, trailing 36-23 late in third quarter before an interception at the goal line stalled the upset bid. ... Ducks' rushing offense ranks No. 4 in the country at 323 yards per game, and their net punting is No. 1 nationally at 45.1 yards — 6 yards better than the Pac-12 runner-up. ... Ducks are tied with Stanford for most sacks in Pac-12 with 25. ... Oregon has 30 TDs in 40 red-zone trips ... Oregon RB LaMichael James, out recently, has 852 yards rushing and a 9.0 average. ... Ducks' 20-game home win streak is No. 2 nationally.
Injuries: WSU — QB Jeff Tuel (shoulder, calf) and OT Wade Jacobson (back) are out. Oregon — S James Scales (knee) is out; RB LaMichael James (elbow) and TE Colt Lyerla (shoulder) are questionable; QB Darron Thomas (knee) is probable.
Upset brewing? Ducks are somewhat beat up, but that didn't matter last week against Colorado. A WSU win would rank as one of the all-time shockers in the game, at least according to the spread.
Prediction: Oregon 51, Washington State 14.
