UNLV (0-1) at Washington State (1-0)

Time: 2 p.m. at Martin Stadium.

TV: None. Radio: KTTH (770). The line: WSU by 14 points.

The setup: UNLV, 2-11 last year and a 51-17 loser at Wisconsin in its opener, faces a WSU team that won its opener handily over Idaho State but lost QB Jeff Tuel to a broken clavicle.

What to expect: The Rebels will test the Cougars with some power-running formations and use QB Caleb Herring occasionally on the run, as well as RBs Bradley Randle and Tim Cornett, who combined for 26 carries and 126 yards in Madison. Cougars will attack with the spread option, with senior Marshall Lobbestael throwing to a good corps of receivers and using primarily backs Logwone Mitz and Rickey Galvin.

Notes: UNLV coach Bobby Hauck worked under Rick Neuheisel at Washington before he took the head-coaching job at Montana, where he was 80-17 and took the Griz to three FCS title games. ... Hauck just got a two-year extension from AD Jim Livengood, former AD at WSU. ... Hauck's staff includes former UW guard Dominic Daste, as well as ex-UW staffers J.D. Williams and Brent Myers. ... Ex-Western Washington coach and WSU grad Robin Ross is also a first-year assistant there. ... Hauck went 4-1 against WSU coach Paul Wulff when both were in the Big Sky. ... WSU is 4-0 in the series, stretching over three decades. ... WSU won last meeting, 40-13, in 1991.

Key matchup: UNLV RBs Bradley Randle and Tim Cornett against WSU LBs Sekope Kaufusi, C.J. Mizell and Alex Hoffman-Ellis.

Injuries: UNLV — H-back Aaron Reed (leg) is out; OL Jason Koontz (back) is doubtful. WSU — QB Jeff Tuel (clavicle), LB Darryl Monroe (Achilles), CB Travion Smith (knee) and CB Spencer Waseem (knee) are out.

Upset brewing? It's not out of the realm, as WSU isn't used to being a big favorite, several players have missed time with a virus this week, and the Cougars are working through a quarterback change.

Prediction: WSU 30, UNLV 24.
