Kendall Hunter, the Oklahoma State back coming off an injury-plagued 2009 season, ran wild for 257 yards and four touchdowns on 21 carries, despite playing only the first half and one series of the second.
Play of the game
With OSU on top 24-10 not long before the half, Hunter, on a first-down play from the Cowboys' 33, squirted free over the left side and outran the overmatched WSU defense for 66 yards to the 1-yard line, from where OSU scored three plays later.
After WSU had cut a 17-0 deficit to 17-10 in the second quarter, the Cowboys carved up the Cougars' defense for 71 yards on four quick plays for a score to remove any real doubt.
WSU player of the game
Freshman wide receiver Marquess Wilson had a 48-yard touchdown reception and later set up WSU's second touchdown with a 46-yard catch to the Oklahoma State 1.
The most points WSU had given up in an opener in its history was in a 50-12 loss to USC in 1955.
Freshman running back Rickey Galvin broke a forearm on the first carry of his career in the first five minutes and is likely done for the season. Wide receiver Jared Karstetter left with a concussion. Fullback Jared Byers left with a sprained knee. Linebacker Jamal Atofau pulled a hamstring and left early.
"We were horrible, absolutely terrible." — WSU coach Paul Wulff, referring to his team's tackling.
