WSU Gameday: Cougars vs. Oregon
A look at Saturday’s matchup
7:30 p.m., at Martin Stadium
ESPN TV, 770 AM Radio
Ground-bound? WSU’s Connor Halliday threw 89 passes at Oregon last year, but it would behoove the Cougars to get some running game going against the Ducks, who have allowed 150 yards a game rushing.
Line move: Cougars will try to take advantage of a deep but dinged-up Oregon offensive line that has lost three starters — Tyler Johnstone, Andre Yruretagoyena and Jake Fisher — to injuries.
SI jinx? Mariota adorns the cover of the latest Sports Illustrated, calling to mind 2003, when the Ducks were splashed on SI’s cover after a win over Michigan that kept them undefeated. That week, WSU hung a 55-16 shiner on the Ducks in Eugene. But that was a 10-3 Cougars team, the last WSU club with a winning record.
Good night: WSU hasn’t yet seen an afternoon game in 2014, as its earliest starting time is 5 p.m. That’s also the kickoff time for its fifth game of the season next week at Utah.
Prediction: Oregon, 48-35.
