LEWISTON, Idaho — Washington State returned to its fall camp here Tuesday afternoon for a 70-minute football workout, the last one before a climactic scrimmage that will end the off-campus portion of its season preparation.

Monday, the Cougars were prevented from a workout in Lewiston by thick smoke from a wildfire south of the city and they returned to the WSU campus for drills. But a day later, winds had made the haze more moderate, and by late afternoon, after the WSU workout was done, a heavy thunderstorm hit the entire area.

A scrimmage Wednesday will end the 12-day Lewiston camp, headquartered at Lewis-Clark State College.

WSU opens the season Aug. 28 at CenturyLink Field against Rutgers, which will be playing for the first time as a Big Ten member.

NOTES

• WSU announced that it had signed Jeffery Farrar, rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN.com, to a financial aid agreement. Farrar, who will be immediately eligible, is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety out of Upland High in Upland, Calif. Last season, he had five interceptions and 35 tackles. On the offensive side, he played receiver and had 25 receptions for 201 yards.
