PULLMAN — Thursday's Cougars football practice saw snow falling on the Martin Stadium turf and temperatures in the 30s.

Could winter weather help Washington State when it hosts UCLA on Saturday night? Well, it's obviously not something UCLA can simulate.

Cougars assistant coach Jeff Choate recalled his worst cold-weather experience as a player or a coach — a game at Montana Western when it was about 20 degrees below zero with heavy snow. To plow the field, they brought in a road grader. The grader plowed the snow to the side, so when the crews drew the yard-lines on — in orange paint, no less — the entire field was slanted.

Choate said he doesn't expect UCLA to think about snow but to have a mindset that it's not going to bother them. For instance, Bruins coach Jim Mora refused to address the altitude issue with his team before their game at Colorado this season.

Notes

• At the Cougars' request, a 2013 game against Brigham Young, scheduled for Sept. 14, has been moved to 2019, also at Martin Stadium. The game is the second of a home-and-home between the schools. WSU added Southern Utah to its 2013 schedule to replace the BYU contest. That game will be played Sept. 14, 2013, at Martin Stadium.

• Offensive lineman Gunnar Eklund is still sidelined with a right hand injury.

Jake Rodgers has been playing left tackle the past two days with John Fullington moving back to left guard.
