HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Washington picked the wrong week to play some miserable golf.

“It was a bad week for us,” Huskies men’s coach Matt Thurmond said about the NCAA championships. “I think that if this team played up to their capabilities we would have breezed into the match play. No disrespect to the other teams because they are all great teams, but I just thought we were pretty terrible.”

The Huskies finished 15th at Prairie Dunes. Their 7-over 287 Monday left them at 13-over 853.

Stanford won the qualifying stage by nine shots at 13 under.

Corey Pereira was the top Husky, closing with a 1-under 69 to tie for 20th at 1-under 209.

NOTES

• The Washington women’s crew program has been invited to participate in The Gallagher Great Race in New Zealand in September. The Huskies are the first American college crew invited.

Tyler Baker drove in the winning run in the eighth inning as Edmonds Community College topped Bellevue College 7-6 to claim the NWAACC baseball title in Longview. Chris Osborne went 4 for 4 for the winners.

• The United States, with golfers from Washington and Oregon, posted a 19.5-16.5 win over Canada in Blaine in the North Pacific Junior Ladies Matches.
