The Washington State women’s crew won three races Sunday at the Clemson Invitational on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina.

The varsity eight won its first race and finished third in its second race. The second varsity eight also finished first and third. In the varsity-four races, WSU’s boat was second in the first session and first in the second race.

“It was pretty windy out there,” said WSU coach Jane LaRiviere. “We switched up the lineups today in the varsity eight and the second varsity eight between sessions and I think we learned a few things. It was a solid weekend.”

Gonzaga also competed in the event. The Bulldogs placed third and fifth in their two varsity-eight heats, fifth in both second varsity-eight heats and seventh in varsity four.

Men’s golf

Seattle University (915) finished 10th at the El Macero (Calif.) Classic, co-hosted by UC Davis and Nevada at the El Macero Country Club. Kyle Cornett was the top SU finisher in a tie for 34th place at 11-over 227.

Women’s golf

Eastern Washington (314) was sixth after the first day of the Big Sky Golf Championship at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz. Taylor Crandall was tied for third after shooting a 2-over 74.

Note

• The Seattle SeaHawks, made up of 13- to 15-year-old girls from Seattle, won the Copa Cola-Cola soccer tournament in Los Angeles. Two players from that team will have the opportunity to participate in the Copa Coca-Cola soccer camp in Brazil during the World Cup.
