LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Brett Bisping, the tournament’s most valuable player, had 20 points and nine rebounds and Siena cruised past Fresno State 81-68 in the decisive Game 3 of the College Basketball Invitational championship series Saturday.

Rob Poole scored 23 points for the Saints.

Siena (20-18) won its first national postseason championship since it moved to NCAA Division I in 1976.

Picked 10th of 11 in the preseason Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference coaches’ poll, Siena got a rowdy crowd of 2,788 fired up early and never trailed. Siena’s student section was lured by the promise of free bacon before the brunch-time tip.

Tyler Johnson finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for Fresno State (21-18), which shot a season-low 30 percent and was outrebounded 46-34.

“Their physicality to start the game was at another level,” Bulldogs coach Rodney Terry said of the Saints.

Rutgers wins WNIT

EL PASO, Texas – Freshman Tyler Scaife went coast to coast and scored with two seconds left to give Rutgers a 56-54 victory over Texas-El Paso in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament final before a capacity crowd of 12,222. Rutgers (28-9), which led 30-16 at the half, withstood a furious second-half rally by UTEP (29-8).
