CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Xylina McDaniel had a perfectly good explanation for taking a shot while seated on the floor under the basket.
“I was just so wide open, I guess,” the sophomore said with a laugh.
McDaniel made that shot down the stretch and added a put-back with 56 seconds left to put North Carolina ahead for good in the NCAA tournament game, helping the Tar Heels defeat Tennessee-Martin 60-58 on Sunday.
McDaniel, daughter of former NBA Sonics standout Xavier McDaniel, finished with 14 points. North Carolina overcame an 18-point deficit with 10:51 left.
