EUGENE, Ore. – Joseph Young scored 25 points as Oregon took a commanding lead early and held off rival Oregon State for a 93-83 Pac-12 basketball victory Sunday.

Mike Moser added 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Oregon (16-8 overall, 4-8 Pac-12), which had five players in double figures.

Eric Moreland led Oregon State with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Roberto Nelson scored 18 for the Beavers (13-11, 5-7). Oregon State has lost three in a row.

Oregon made its first seven three-point shots to build a 31-12 lead before Oregon State went on a 15-3 run.

The Beavers twice cut Oregon’s lead to two points in the second half, the latter time when Hallice Cooke sank two free throws to make the score 72-70 with 5:11 remaining.

But the Ducks produced stops on five of Oregon State’s next six possessions and put together a 12-3 run.

“I’m glad for the guys,” Oregon coach Dana Altman said. “I’m glad they battled back. We got in that huddle and just said, ‘Fellas, take a deep breath here. It still comes down to stops and rebounds; it still comes down to execution.’ And I thought they did a good job.”

No major-college teams have played more against each other than the Ducks and Beavers, who met for the 341st time. Oregon State leads the series 185-156.

Xavier Johnson scored 20 points as the Buffaloes completed a season sweep of USC, sending the last-place Trojans (10-15, 1-11) to their sixth straight loss.

The Buffaloes (19-7, 8-5) are off to their best start after 26 games since the 1996-97 squad opened 19-7 and made the NCAA tournament. They are 5-4 since leading scorer Spencer Dinwiddie suffered a torn knee ligament Jan. 12 at Washington.
