Alabama, Florida State are 1-2 in first BCS standings

Alabama topped the first Bowl Championship Series standings of the year and Florida State edged Oregon for the second spot.

Alabama and Florida State hold the top two spots in the first Bowl Championship Series standings of the season.

The Oregon Ducks were a close third behind second-place Florida State.

Florida State (.9348 BCS average) is coming off its biggest victory of the season, a 51-14 romp at previously unbeaten Clemson.

The Ducks (.9320) have only played one team that was ranked at the time, but could get a boost in the next two weeks with games against UCLA and at Stanford. UCLA is 12th in the BCS standings and Stanford is sixth.

Ohio State (.8553) is fourth and Missouri (.8219) is fifth in the standings released Sunday night.

The top two teams in the final standings after the regular season play in the BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 6 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. The BCS will be replaced by a four-team playoff after the 2014 regular season.

Alabama (.9841) is ranked at the top in the USA Today coaches poll and Harris poll. The two-time defending champion Crimson Tide is second to Florida State in the computer rankings.

Florida State is third in each poll.

Oregon is second in the polls and fourth in the computer rankings.
