LACEY — Mark McLaughlin swished a fadeaway jumper from 23 feet at the buzzer as Central Washington stunned No. 3 seed Alaska Anchorage 79-78 Thursday night in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament.

Sixth-seeded Central (15-12) advanced to Friday's semifinals against Seattle Pacific (23-3), the No. 2 seed and the nation's third-ranked Division II team. Those teams meet at 5:15 p.m. at Marcus Pavilion on the Saint Martin's campus.

In the other semifinal, top-seeded Western Washington (26-1), the defending national champion, faces Alaska Fairbanks (16-11) at 7:30. Fairbanks beat Montana State Billings 87-73 behind Stefan Tica's 17 points.

McLaughlin scored a tournament-record 32 points, including 26 in the second half as CWU rallied from a 20-point deficit.

McLaughlin is a former Inglemoor High School and Tacoma Community College player who transferred to Washington, but left in August 2012 before playing a game for the Huskies.

The women's semifinals are also Friday, with sixth-seeded Seattle Pacific playing No. 2 seed Simon Fraser at noon. No. 1 seed Western Washington faces No. 5 Northwest Nazarene at 2:30 p.m.

The championship games will be Saturday, the women at 5:15 p.m., the men at 7:30.
