STORRS, Conn. — Guard Skylar Diggins and Notre Dame seem to have Connecticut's number.

The Fighting Irish have turned one of the best rivalries in the game into a one-sided affair lately, winning five of the last six meetings.

The senior All-American scored 19 points to help fifth-ranked Notre Dame beat the top-ranked Huskies 73-72 Saturday.

Diggins made two free throws with 49 seconds left to close out the scoring. UConn (12-1 overall, 0-1 Big East Conference) missed three shots in the last 29 seconds.

Junior Kayla McBride scored a game-high 21 points for Notre Dame (12-1, 1-0)

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Stefanie Dolson each scored 17 points for the Huskies.

"We came into this game and we weren't ready," Dolson said. "I don't think we were ready for how hard Notre Dame was going to come at us. They out-toughed us."

Haiden Palmer scored 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting and Taelor Karr added 15 points as the Zags (12-4, 2-0 West Coast) routed the Broncos (9-6, 1-1).

Gonzaga led 47-17 at halftime.

"I thought that the first half we played about as good as we have played all year at both ends of the court," Zags coach Kelly Graves said.
