KENT — Roberts Lipsbergs scored twice and Brandon Glover stopped 30 of 31 shots as the Seattle Thunderbirds posted a 3-1 victory over Kamloops in Western Hockey League action Sunday in the ShoWare Center.

For Glover and the Thunderbirds (14-13-1-0) it was the third victory in three nights, and this one came against a talented Kamloops (21-7-1-2) squad.

Lipsbergs, who now has 13 goals, gave Seattle a 1-0 lead midway through the second period. After Kamloops tied the score, Justin Hickman put the Thunderbirds back on top with 10 minutes left in the game. Lipsbergs closed out the scoring with 40 seconds left.

GOLF

Richard H. Lee, a former Washington Husky, and Jeff Gove, out of Kenmore, were hanging tough after the fifth of six rounds in the PGA Tour's Qualifying School in Palm Desert, Calif. Lee, after a 70 Sunday, dropped from a tie for second to a tie for ninth at 19-under 341. Gove dropped to a tie for 17th after a 71 and is 16 under. The top 25 finishers earn playing cards for the PGA Tour.

The Putnam brothers of Tacoma probably are too far back for PGA Tour cards, but are still in the hunt for privileges on the Web.com Tour. Michael Putnam had a 68 and is tied for 85th at 8-under. Andrew Putnam had a 74 and is tied for 98th at 6-under. Former UW player Alex Prugh is tied for 140th at 1 over.

• Former Washington State golfer Kim Welch earned her LPGA Tour card with a 68 in Daytona, Fla., where she finished tied for 11th at 4-under. Anya Alvarez, a former Husky, shot a 2-under 70 to finish tied for 54th at 3 over and didn't earn her card.

SWIMMING

• Washington State finished sixth out of 10 teams in the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. Loree Olson finished fourth in the "A" final of the 200 backstroke with time of 1:58.72.

• At the Husky Invitational in Federal Way, Seattle University's Kevlyn Richards finished 14th in the preliminaries of the 200 breaststroke in 2:22.59. For the Seattle U men at the same meet, Andy Cunningham finished in 11th place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.99.

BASKETBALL

Jobi Wall scored a season-high 20 points late Saturday night, including the go-ahead three-pointer, as Seattle Pacific (7-1, 2-0 Great Northwest) posted an 85-79 victory over host Alaska Anchorage (7-2, 1-1).
