NEW YORK — Kansas State and Oregon are on course to play in the BCS National Championship Game.

After previously top-ranked Alabama was upset by Texas A&M 29-24 Saturday, the new Bowl Championship Series standings have Kansas State (.9674) first and Oregon (.9497) second.

Notre Dame (.9396) is third, most likely in need of a loss by Oregon or Kansas State to reach the title game Jan. 7 in Miami Gardens, Fla.

"These teams are in their order and the only way that order changes is if somebody gets beat," said analyst Jerry Palm of CBS Sports and

Kansas State is second in both BCS polls — the coaches' and Harris — and in the computer rankings. Oregon is first in both polls and fourth in the computer ratings. Notre Dame is third in the polls and first in the computer ratings. All three teams are 10-0.

"Notre Dame is not going to jump (Oregon and Kansas State) without their help," Palm said. "They're way too far behind in the polls. The voters are not on board with Notre Dame."

Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly lobbied for his team.

"Each team has their own distinctions. The distinction of this football team is it's the number-one scoring defense in the country," Kelly said. "It's proven that against very, very good teams all year."
