STORRS, Conn. — Shenneika Smith's three-pointer from the wing with eight seconds left lifted St. John's to a 57-56 victory over No. 2 Connecticut on Saturday, snapping the Huskies' home-court winning streak at 99.

It was also UConn's first home loss to an unranked opponent in nearly 19 years.

Trailing by two with 16 seconds left, Nadirah McKenith drove the lane and kicked the ball out to Smith, who made the three to give the Red Storm (18-8 overall, 10-3 Big East Conference) the lead.

"The funny part about it is, if you hold a team to 57 points you're supposed to win that game," Huskies coach Geno Auriemma said.

UConn (24-3, 11-2) last lost at home March 6, 2007, falling to Rutgers in the Big East championship game.

Zags earn at least share of WCC title

SPOKANE — Haiden Palmer scored 15 points to lead Gonzaga to a 66-40 victory over Pepperdine that assured the Zags of at least a share of their eighth consecutive West Coast Conference regular-season title.

Gonzaga (24-4 overall, 13-2 WCC) can win the conference title outright with a home victory over Brigham Young on Saturday.

The score was tied at 34 before Gonzaga scored 22 unanswered points to lead 56-34 with 3:43 remaining.

Katelan Redmon of Spokane scored 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting for Gonzaga.

The Zags shot 35 percent from the field and limited the Waves (12-13, 7-7) to 21 percent shooting.
