PULLMAN — Doreena Campbell scored 24 points, including 10 for 10 from the free-throw line, as UCLA beat Washington State 65-50 Sunday.
Christina Nzekwe, a former standout at Chief Sealth High School in Seattle, added nine points in 11 minutes as UCLA (16-9 overall, 7-7 Pac-10) rebounded from a loss on Friday night at Washington.
Washington State (10-16, 3-12) was led by freshman guard Jazmine Perkins, who scored 13 points. April Cook, also a freshman guard, added 12 points for the Cougars.
The Bruins outrebounded Washington State 42-34 and forced 28 WSU turnovers. UCLA made 25 turnovers.
"UCLA played tough defensively and forced us into some tough situations," said WSU coach June Daugherty, previously Washington's coach. "We expected it, and we've been working on it. But you have to keep your head up, no matter what other teams are doing. Today, we obviously didn't do that."
The Cougars hurt themselves with poor free-throw shooting, making 3 of 11 attempts. UCLA was 19 of 25 from the line.
When the teams played on Jan. 22 in Los Angeles, UCLA romped 83-48.
At No. 1 Connecticut 76, No. 24 Notre Dame 66
Renee Montgomery had 20 points and eight assists as the Huskies (27-0, 13-0 Big East) beat the Irish (18-7, 7-6). It was UConn's closest game of the season.
"Every game isn't going to be a 30-point win," said Maya Moore, who scored 18 points for the Huskies. "Sometimes you have to grind 'em out. Challenging us is good for us. When teams don't just lay down and let us do whatever we want, it makes us better."
At No. 9 Maryland 77, No. 7 Duke 59
Kristi Toliver scored 34 points and Marissa Coleman added 24 as the Terrapins (23-4, 10-2 Atlantic Coast) defeated the Blue Devils (22-4, 9-3) before 16,344.
"I don't think I've ever seen a stat sheet with 34 and 24 [points] from two guard spots," Duke coach Joanne P. McCallie said. "That's pretty remarkable."
Maryland has won its last 33 home games.
Chante Black and Carrem Gay each scored 13 points for Duke.
