ANA finalizes order for 40 Boeing widebodies

Japan’s ANA finalized a big order with Boeing for long-haul 777Xs and other jets, worth an estimated $6.5 billion. The airline also bought A320neo short-haul jets from Airbus worth an estimated $1.6 billion.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) of Japan on Thursday finalized a huge Boeing order first announced in March for 40 widebody airplanes: 20 of the upcoming 777-9Xs, 14 new model 787-9 Dreamliners and six of the current 777-300ERs.

At list prices, the order value is just shy of $13 billion. However, assuming standard market discounts based on market pricing data from aircraft valuation firm Avitas, the real value of the order is estimated at about $6.5 billion.

ANA said in March it will use the 777-9Xs to begin replacing its current 777 fleet.

The 787s in the order make ANA the world’s largest customer for the Dreamliner with a total of 80 airplanes ordered.

The airline currently operates 29 Dreamliners with 51 more to deliver, including 43 of the larger 787-9s.

ANA at the same time also finalized a smaller order with Airbus, also announced in March, for 30 single-aisle A320neo planes.

These planes will replace ANA’s older 737s and A320s on Japanese domestic routes.

At list prices, the Airbus order value is $3.5 billion. But using Avitas data, the real value after standard discounts is estimated at $1.6 billion.
